Many members of dance community in Seattle have fond memories of the original DanceNet, which was a free monthly publication that first appeared in the city in December 1992. The founding editors were KT Niehoff, Kara O'Toole and A.C. Peterson, with Wendy Quesenberry providing her expertise in graphic design and layout. From its first edition, the newsletter included a calendar of events for the month, a guide to venues and rehearsal spaces, upcoming grant deadlines, classified ads, and featured articles. Each front cover displayed the "Dance Babe of the Month", and featured many of the pioneers and inspirers of dance in Seattle. Publication continued for a number of years, and an informal online calendar was set up. In February 2004, On the Boards hosted a gathering of dance artists, students and advocates, in and around Seattle, to share ideas and concerns and take stock of the state of the local dance community. At the end of the Forum, a group of volunteers undertook to look at reviving DanceNet through the existing website, expanding the calendar, creating a listserve for community members, and providing a mixture of resource information and articles of interest to the dance community, in much the same way as the original publication had done. The result of more than a year's work, meetings, and discussions is presented in this site. The current DanceNet team is grateful to the three co-editors of 1992 for giving us the inspiration to create this site, and also to all those who sustained DanceNet over the years, and are now guiding our efforts. Thanks to the DanceNet committee who have donated their time and efforts into setting up this site.Content provided by Corrie Befort, Andre Bouchard, Laura Curry, Beth Graczyk, Sandi Kurtz, Erin Mitchell, Caroline Renard, Sean Ryan, Michèle Steinwald, Beth Schlansky, Tim Summers.
